Trump Puts the Brakes on the Foreign Solar Scam
For years, climate activists demanded that Americans subsidize and surrender their energy system to unreliable solar power while foreign countries flooded the market with artificially cheap components and wiped out American producers.
President Trump is putting a stop to it.
The President’s new action will restrict imports of foreign polysilicon and solar products, impose new tariffs, and reward companies that move production back to the United States. The White House noted that America’s share of global polysilicon production collapsed from 50 percent in 2005 to less than 2 percent in 2024.
As the White House explains:
“For decades, foreign governments have dumped polysilicon and its derivatives into the U.S. market, eliminating U.S. producers and jobs.”
The green lobby never cared where its solar panels came from. It only cared about forcing more of them onto the American grid, regardless of slave labor or the consequences for workers, taxpayers, reliability, or national security.
President Trump understands that America should not sacrifice its industrial base to prop up a weak, weather-dependent technology built on foreign supply chains. Restricting these imports is a welcome correction to years of climate-first policymaking that enriched overseas manufacturers while leaving Americans with a less reliable grid.
Solar power should not survive through foreign dumping, taxpayer subsidies, and government mandates. President Trump is once again putting American workers and American energy strength first.
