Obama Energy Secretary’s Hidden Ties to CCP United Front Group Exposed
A bombshell new investigation from Natalie Winters raises serious questions about former Obama Energy Secretary Steven Chu’s relationship with organizations tied to the Chinese Communist Party, and what followed when he took control of America’s Department of Energy.
Winters uncovered official Chinese records listing Chu as an Overseas Honorary President of the Western Returned Scholars Association (WRSA) from 1999 to 2003. WRSA’s own records say the organization operated under the CCP Central Secretariat and the Central United Front Work Department, part of what U.S. officials have described as Beijing’s political-warfare apparatus.
As Winters reports:
“Before Steven Chu oversaw America’s national laboratories and nuclear-weapons complex, a group inside what U.S. officials describe as the CCP’s ‘political warfare’ apparatus listed him as an ‘overseas honorary president.’”
That relationship takes on even greater significance given what happened after Chu became Energy Secretary.
Under Chu, the Obama Department of Energy launched major technology-sharing initiatives with Beijing, including the U.S.-China Clean Energy Research Center. The United States and China committed $150 million to joint research, and Chu openly described the arrangement in 2011: “We will jointly create intellectual property, then share the intellectual property.”
Chu also signed an agreement establishing a nuclear-security Center of Excellence in China involving American equipment, technical exchanges, and training.
The Obama administration spent years treating Communist China as a partner while opening doors to American technology, scientific expertise, and energy research. Winters’ reporting now adds an extraordinary new detail: the man overseeing DOE had previously been given an honorary leadership title by an organization embedded within the CCP’s United Front system.
At minimum, Americans deserve to know how this relationship was vetted, what was disclosed before Chu’s confirmation, and why the United States was so willing to share strategically valuable technology with its greatest geopolitical rival.
The mainstream media, of course, refused to report this fact. Thankfully, independent journalists exist to shed light on such controversies.
