PTF Applauds Trump EPA For Repealing Obama-Era Climate Failings

In a landmark announcement, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin unveiled the agency’s proposal to repeal the 2009 Endangerment Finding, which gave the agency vast power over energy policy. For years, the finding has been weaponized by the eco-left to justify onerous mandates on American energy production without direct congressional approval.

Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director for Power The Future, applauded the EPA’s deregulation efforts,

“This is a long overdue and much-needed step toward undoing Obama-era rules that gave power to unelected bureaucrats so they could make sweeping decisions about America’s energy future. With this action, the Trump Administration is removing power from the shadows—where activist lawyers and career bureaucrats operated for years—and restoring accountability to American energy decisions. Administration Zeldin deserves great credit for this bold and decisive move.”

If finalized, the proposal would repeal all GHG emission standards stemming from the Endangerment Finding, including the Biden-Harris Administration’s electric vehicle (EV) mandate, and is projected to save Americans $54 billion annually. The repeal would also eliminate unpopular “off-cycle” regulations, such as the start-stop feature now common in most cars.

“With this proposal, the Trump EPA is proposing to end sixteen years of uncertainty for automakers and American consumers,” said EPA Administrator Zeldin“In our work so far, many stakeholders have told me that the Obama and Biden EPAs twisted the law, ignored precedent, and warped science to achieve their preferred ends and stick American families with hundreds of billions of dollars in hidden taxes every single year. We heard loud and clear the concern that EPA’s GHG emissions standards themselves, not carbon dioxide which the Finding never assessed independently, was the real threat to Americans’ livelihoods. If finalized, rescinding the Endangerment Finding and resulting regulations would end $1 trillion or more in hidden taxes on American businesses and families.”

EPA is now inviting public comment on the proposed repeal and will concurrently review prior rules tied to the Endangerment Finding, including GHG standards for light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles.

Removing costly and excessive mandates will bring back affordable car options, boost the American auto industry, and lower prices for everyday goods, fulfilling President Trump’s pledge to lead the Great American Comeback.
