Alaska’s Energy Future Just Got a Major Boost
This week, the Department of the Interior took a bold step to unleash Alaska’s extraordinary resource potential, setting the stage for a new era of energy dominance, job creation, and long-term prosperity. Under the leadership of Secretary Doug Burgum and the direction of President executive order, Interior announced new actions to expand leasing opportunities and clear key infrastructure hurdles for Alaska’s energy economy.
This includes reopening up to 82% of the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska (NPR-A) for exploration, reinstating a leasing program for the Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and revoking outdated land withdrawals to advance the Ambler Road and Alaska LNG Pipeline projects, two critical pieces of infrastructure that will help power not only the state, but the entire country.
Governor Mike Dunleavy praised the move, calling it a game-changer for Alaska’s future:
“The announcement today from the Department of Interior is more great news for Alaska. I want to thank President Trump and Interior Secretary Burgum for their commitment to work on behalf of Alaska to ensure that our great state and its resources can continue to be a solution for many of America’s challenges. The news today will provide more investment opportunities, more jobs, and a better future for Alaskans.”
After years of federal obstruction and overreach under the previous administration, this is exactly the course correction Alaska needed. These actions not only reaffirm Alaska’s rightful role as a pillar of American energy security, but they also send a clear message that America is open for energy business again, and Alaska is leading the charge.
The Biden-era strategy of locking up resources and punishing producers is over. Under President Trump and Secretary Burgum, Alaska is back and so is American energy.
