America’s Energy Workers Are Ready—Now Let’s Give Them the Backing They Deserve

Iran’s parliament voted to support the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, potentially cutting off the route of 20 million barrels of oil per day. This is a stark reminder of just how critical energy security is to national security. If Iran follows through, the ripple effects will be felt across global markets and at every American gas pump.

But while Iran uses oil as a weapon, there’s one reason the United States is in a stronger position than in years past: the hard work of our domestic energy workforce.

“Our energy workers are producing more oil than ever and giving America the strength to withstand aggression like this,” said Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director of Power The Future. “They’re the backbone of our national security—drilling, refining, and delivering the energy that powers our economy and keeps our nation strong.”

That strength, however, exists despite the Biden administration’s efforts to weaken our energy security. In 2022, President Biden ordered the largest release of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) in U.S. history, draining it to historically low levels to offset political fallout from record-high gas prices. Despite repeated promises to refill it, President Biden left office with it less than 55% full. This leaves America with fewer tools to respond to genuine global threats, such as the one we now face.

The latest Energy Information Administration report confirms that American oil production is at record highs. But these workers can’t do it alone. They need real leadership, not short-term fixes or political stunts.

The message is clear: energy is power, and our workers are ready. Now it’s time to match their commitment with policies that prioritize production, infrastructure, and a serious plan to restore our reserves. Our national security depends on it.
