Bill Gates Never Should Have Had a Top Secret DOE Clearance
This week, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) revealed that Bill Gates held a Department of Energy “Q” security clearance from 2014 to 2021, raising a simple question: Why?
A Q clearance is among the federal government’s highest levels of security access. It is typically reserved for individuals who require access to information involving nuclear weapons, critical energy infrastructure, and other highly classified national security programs. It is not something that should be handed out simply because someone is wealthy, influential, or well-connected.
The public deserves an explanation for why a billionaire climate activist needed access to some of America’s most sensitive national security information.
Equally concerning is Gates’ long history of supporting energy policies and making predictions about the future of climate and energy that have never been accurate. For years, Gates has claimed that governments should quickly overhaul energy systems using technologies that remain costly, face deployment hurdles, or have struggled to grow as expected.
At the same time, thanks to the eco-left’s energy policy choices influenced by figures like Gates, American families have faced higher electricity costs, reliability issues, and increasing strain on the electric grid. Gates has often promoted policies that overlook the ongoing need for affordable and reliable energy.
Americans should expect transparency whenever someone receives access to the nation’s most closely guarded secrets. Congress must investigate why Bill Gates was granted a Q clearance, what classified work required it, and whether that access was truly necessary.
