Bipartisan Ratepayer Protection Act Hits Eco-Left Roadblock in Senate
The Ratepayer Protection Act passed the House this week by an overwhelming 417-3 vote. The legislation would require state utility regulators to consider standards that ensure large data centers cover the additional generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure costs needed to serve them, rather than shifting those costs onto existing customers.
But when Sen. Jon Husted (R-O.H.) sought to pass the legislation by unanimous consent in the Senate, Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) objected.

“When 417 members of the House can agree on something, it should be a no-brainer, but apparently that’s asking too much for extreme eco-leftists who are standing in the way of common sense again,” said Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director of Power The Future. “American families want results, but instead eco-leftists want to campaign on an issue rather than fix it. It makes all their purported concern about affordability issues ring hollow, and exposes them as more interested in electoral politics than meaningful results.”
