Don’t Turn OH Into CA

Ohio legislators who are currently considering a pair of bills, HB 15 and SB2, have the opportunity to either support President Trump’s energy dominance agenda or pursue California-style policies in Ohio.

President Trump has been clear that an all of the above energy strategy, including coal, is the way for America to meet its energy demands. The Ohio Valley Electric Corporation (OVEC), which operates a coal plant in Gallia County, supports 275 jobs and 50 full-time local contractors.

In testimony on the bills, an OVEC energy worker said that some of the proposed policies could have a negative impact on the plant and its employees.

“In addition to essential grid reliability and sustainability, the economic resources that the plant provides the region are invaluable. There simply isn’t anywhere else in southeast Ohio that could replace my job at OVEC. We are an area leader in wages and OVEC offers its employees a very good retirement plan. Most employers do not even offer comparable retiree benefits anymore.”

Ohio Republicans must ensure that their state’s energy policies align with President Trump’s American energy agenda, not California’s failed policies.
