China’s Bot Army Is Targeting America’s AI and Energy Future
Last week, the X’s Safety team uncovered a massive bot farm of roughly 200,000 suspected Chinese inauthentic accounts involved in influence operations. Among them were hundreds of accounts pushing messages aimed at the American debate over AI and energy. This included claims that data centers are driving up household electricity prices and straining the power grid. Some even circulated AI-generated cartoons portraying data-center operators as getting rich at American families’ expense.
The findings add another layer to what Power The Future has already documented. Now, X’s investigation offers fresh evidence that suspected Chinese influence operations are advancing some of the same anti-data-center narratives in the American debate.
That should come as no surprise. China has every incentive to see the United States slow data center development. The answer to growing electricity demand isn’t to retreat from AI or data centers. It’s to unleash reliable, affordable American energy, build the infrastructure we need, and ensure the United States leads.
