Congress Votes to Repeal Biden Natural Gas Tax

Last week, Congress passed the Natural Gas Repeal Act without the help of the entire New Mexico delegation. Despite the fact that many New Mexico families are still struggling with high energy prices, the state’s entire Congressional delegation voted to keep Joe Biden’s Natural Gas Tax in place. In the House, Representatives Vasquez, Stansbury, and Leger Fernandez all voted against the repeal, and hours later, Senators Heinrich and Lujan joined them.

“In November, the American people overwhelmingly voted for lower energy prices, and today, House Republicans took another step towards fulfilling that mandate,” Pfluger told the Daily Caller News Foundation in an exclusive statement. “In the latest effort to reverse Biden’s disastrous energy policies, the House passed my bill to nullify the EPA’s rule implementing the ill-conceived natural gas tax. This tax raises costs on production, discourages investment, and increases energy prices across America. I am looking forward to working toward a full repeal of the underlying statute and continuing to implement President Trump’s pro-energy agenda.”

The Biden Natural Gas Tax was buried within the controversial Inflation Reduction Act and raised costs on natural gas producers starting this year. Without the repeal, the cost of natural gas will go up for over 80 percent of homes in New Mexico.

“It’s sickening to see the supposed leaders of an energy state so out of touch with the people, but that’s clearly the case in New Mexico,” said Larry Behrens, Communications Director for Power The Future. “These politicians constantly work to undermine the cornerstone of our state’s economy while showing complete disregard for the high prices faced by families. Americans overwhelmingly voted to reject this agenda just a few months ago, but New Mexico’s delegation continues to put their special interest friends first.”
