Detroit’s Gas-Powered Revival: A Return to the American Dream

During the Biden administration, Americans were told the future was electric. Government mandates and climate regulations forced automakers to pour billions into electric vehicles (EVs), assuming battery-powered cars would dominate our roads.

Thankfully, that future never arrived.

EVs are costly, inconvenient, and less reliable than promised. High prices, limited charging infrastructure, and sluggish demand have caused even the most dedicated automakers to hit the brakes. Now, thanks to the Trump administration’s rollback of EV mandates, automakers are shifting back to gas-powered vehicles at full speed.

The Wall Street Journal reports,

“Anticipating the regulatory shift, Detroit’s car companies began prepping sites around the U.S. and Canada to build more gas-powered cars and trucks, particularly as the EV gloom darkened.

Ford canceled plans to build a three-row EV in Canada at a facility that will now make heavy-duty pickups instead.

GM abandoned plans to build electric-vehicle motors at a plant in New York to make more V-8 engines.

Until recently, GM CEO Mary Barra was talking up the company’s vision to go 100% EV by 2035.”

For too long, automakers were forced to produce what Washington demanded, not what drivers truly wanted. With those mandates lifted, car companies can now concentrate on what sells and what sustains American auto jobs.

The return to gas isn’t just about horsepower. It’s about restoring a key part of the American dream: freedom on the open road. Powerful, dependable, road-trip-ready vehicles that work for families, workers, and everyday life.
