Ending the Free Ride: Trump’s Latest EO Ends Subsidies for Unreliable, Foreign-Controlled Energy

This week, President Trump announced a new executive order that halts federal subsidies for wind and solar energy products and mandates his administration to eliminate tax credits and federal preferences for them. According to the order, the Treasury and Interior Departments have 45 days to take action, ensuring that all energy sources must now stand on their own merit. Issued on the heels of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, this order aims to safeguard national security and support working families.

President Trump has signed numerous executive orders aimed at increasing domestic energy production, reducing bureaucratic red tape, and reducing dependence on hostile foreign powers. President Trump has championed American energy and is leading the country back to energy dominance.

“For too long, working families were forced to bankroll energy sources that can’t deliver when it matters most,” said Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director for Power The Future. “This executive order helps end the free ride for wind and solar and begins the process of letting energy sources compete on a fair playing field. Families shouldn’t have to subsidize energy failure with their tax dollars and then pay higher utility bills for the privilege.”

President Trump’s executive action comes nearly five years to the day after Power The Future released its report, “The Fight for Rare Earths,” which warned that green energy schemes were dangerously reliant on components from adversarial foreign nations.
