GUILTY: Green Economy Millionaire Shows It Is Built on Lies, Grift, and Fraud
Another “green” hero has fallen and once again, it’s not a low-level bureaucrat or some fly-by-night scammer. It’s one of the Democrat Party’s biggest donors and climate crusaders.
According to National Review, Multimillionaire Joe Sanberg, co-founder of the $2.3 billion “sustainability” firm Aspiration Partners and a former Sierra Club board member, just pleaded guilty to a $248 million fraud scheme built on fake customers, phony carbon offsets, and manufactured financials.
The Department of Justice says Sanberg “used his position at Aspiration to deceive investors and lenders for his own benefit,” leaving nearly a quarter-billion dollars in losses. His penalty? Up to 20 years in prison.
But here’s the real scandal: this is not an exception in the green economy, it’s the model.
Sanberg’s pitch was simple. Companies could pay into his carbon-offset fund, supposedly to plant trees in Africa and “cancel out” their emissions. In reality, the offsets were smoke and mirrors: no trees, no carbon reduction, just a cash pipeline straight into Sanberg’s pockets and, conveniently, Democrat campaign coffers.
Even left-leaning outlets admit up to 90% of global carbon offsets exist only on paper. The Vatican once received offsets for “millions of trees planted in Hungary.” Those trees never existed. Microsoft, Amazon, and others still spend billions on these indulgences every year, keeping the grift alive.
Sanberg simply industrialized the scam, packaging it in a slick “fintech for climate” brand, landing celebrity investors like Robert Downey Jr. and Leonardo DiCaprio, and scoring fawning profiles in places like The Atlantic.
Sanberg wasn’t just an eco-entrepreneur. He was a massive Democratic donor, giving more than $600,000 to party candidates and causes, including Biden, Harris, Schumer, Sherrod Brown, and Ruben Gallego. He poured millions into California ballot initiatives, all while his company was pumping out fake financials and wooing big-name investors.
Sound familiar? Al Gore made hundreds of millions in carbon-trading profits. Wall Street firms built ESG empires on the backs of taxpayers and ratepayers. And every time, the same people who lecture working Americans about “sacrifice” and “transitioning” to green energy are lining their own pockets.
For years, Power The Future has warned that the so-called “green economy” is a taxpayer-funded racket that makes elites richer while killing energy jobs and driving up prices for families. Now, with Sanberg’s guilty plea, we see once again that it’s not about saving the planet. It’s about power, politics, and profit.
While American energy workers produce real value: affordable, reliable energy that powers our homes, cars, and industries, the eco-left builds fake markets, fake offsets, and fake promises.
Sanberg may be headed to prison, but the system that allowed him to thrive is still alive and well. The carbon-offset market is still booming, subsidies are still flowing, and politicians are still cashing checks.
The green economy isn’t green. It’s grift.
