PTF Calls for Congress to Investigate After Bombshell Report on Newsom’s China Climate Junket
We are calling for a full Congressional investigation into the disturbing ties between American climate initiatives and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). A new report from the Washington Free Beacon reveals that the same left-wing foundation funding climate programs tied to the Chinese government also bankrolled California Governor Gavin Newsom’s 2023 trip to China.
According to the report, the Hewlett Foundation has also funneled millions into the California-China Climate Institute (CCCI), an entity based at UC Berkeley Law and chaired by former Governor Jerry Brown. CCCI partners directly with China’s Tsinghua University—an institution with ties to the CCP and Chinese military research.
”It’s no secret the green agenda enriches and strengthens China, but Congress must investigate this scheme so Americans know exactly who is writing the climate policies and how the money flows,” said Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director of Power The Future. “When U.S. governors and public universities are coordinating with Beijing-backed institutions and foundations are picking up the tab, it’s not about the environment anymore—it’s about foreign influence. Congress must follow the money and find out just how much of our climate agenda is actually China’s agenda.”
On their website, the CCCI promotes Beijing’s climate “five-year plans” while they facilitate subnational diplomacy with China outside of federal oversight. All while operating within a taxpayer-funded university without disclosing detailed financials.
