Another Job-Creating Prospect Under Attack in Alaska

May 18, 2022

The eco-left certainly has a well-known playbook: Find a project that could create jobs, but might disturb a fish, fowl or mammal.  Aggressively fight said project.  Find the next and repeat, over and over and over again. That’s certainly the case in Alaska, where radical environmental organizations tend to pool up like salmon during spawning season, waiting for their next opportunity to disrupt Alaska’s bright energy future. The latest project in their crosshairs is the West Susitna Road, which would allow for access to the Estelle Mining District in the remote areas of the Mat-Su Valley in Southcentral Alaska.  The…

Biden Administration Cancels Massive Federal Gas Lease in Alaska as Fuel Prices Break Records

May 12, 2022

Despite Interior Secretary Deb Haaland’s promises to have an “open mind” on her recent visit to Alaska, the Biden administration delivered another crushing blow to the state’s economy yesterday when it cancelled the Cook Inlet federal lease sale. The lease would put over a million acres of federal subsea areas into producers’ hands, with potential for oil and gas development for up to 40 years. The Biden administration’s decision was announced just as the national average for a gallon of gasoline broke a record for the highest price for the third day in a row. Power The Future Alaska State…

Notes from Alaska: Eco-Left’s “Just Transition” Summit Sends the Wrong Message

May 9, 2022

Never let it be said that Alaskans lack opinions…on anything.  Especially when it comes to positioning our state for the future, you’ll hear a wide range of thoughts on how to best do so.  Heck, 48 people are running for a four-month stint in the U.S. Congress, each with their own ideas on how Alaska should function going forward!  That alone should tell you how passionate people are about our state’s coming years. While most Alaskans are rational about our place in the global marketplace, our immense natural storehouses of oil and minerals, and our past (and future!) growth as…

May 3, 2022

Every Tuesday night, Power The Future broadcasts its “Energy Hour” radio program on KVNT (1020 AM, 92.5 FM in Southcentral, or online anywhere at 1020KVNT.com) from 5:00-6:00 PM. The show, hosted by Alaska State Director Rick Whitbeck, typically features updates on Power The Future initiatives, a look at recent energy-centric activities throughout the state, and a call-in from Daniel Turner, Power The Future’s Executive Director and Founder. The second half of the show features a guest or two, with discussion on Alaska’s resource development opportunities, politics or upcoming events the typical topics. Right now, Rick is focused on interviewing some…

Haaland’s Parting Gift to Alaska? Locking Up the State’s National Petroleum Reserve

April 26, 2022

Interior Secretary Deb Haaland made her long-promised trip to Alaska last week, crisscrossing the state and meeting with Native groups, Industry and labor representatives, environmental zealots and government officials.  From talking with a few of those who met with her, she said little, promised less and seemed engaged for the most part. She promised to have an open mind as she reviews the King Cove-to-Cold Bay road; a single-lane connector between communities that both villages want for its life-saving potential, but environmentalists despise. The road, which is a priority of U.S. Senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan (and Congressman Don…

Eco-Hypocrites Rejoice! It is “Earth Day”!

April 22, 2022

The eco-left woke up this morning particularly feisty.  After all, today is “Earth Day”, a celebration of our giant sphere, and also a 24-hour period set aside to warn about its so-called fragility. This year’s theme, for those of you not keeping track, is “Invest in Our Planet.”  We should be investing billions of dollars to responsibly develop American resource prospects and projects.  We should be investing in our people, creating American energy jobs instead of shipping them overseas to Communist China, Putin’s Russia or Taliban-led Afghanistan. By now the radical environmentalists reading this are yelling, “that’s not what we…

Secretary Haaland is Visiting Alaska…Is it for Show or Substance?

April 20, 2022

With the long-anticipated, multiple-time-delayed, will-she-ever-show-up(?) visit to Alaska from Interior Secretary Deb Haaland now underway, questions abound. Is she here for substance, or merely for show? Is her itinerary – much of which has yet to be made public – balanced between those who support responsible development projects that Interior has jurisdiction and/or influence over, or is it mostly meetings with anti-development groups? Will she – and her traveling companions Tracy (the eco-Terrorist) Stone-Manning and Martha Williams, the heads of BLM and Fish & Wildlife, respectively – visit any current jobsites, speak with Alaskans who make their living through development…

Alaska Senator Knows Who to Blame for Record Inflation

April 14, 2022

Before anyone starts down the road of making excuses for the weak-kneed efforts from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, let’s make this point clear: Joe Biden – not anyone else – is responsible for the mess America is in today. If Joe Biden hadn’t capitulated to the eco-Left’s demands to destroy American energy independence, we wouldn’t have the supply-side challenges we have today. If Joe Biden had listened to leading economists, who warned him that inflation could spin out of control, we wouldn’t have the highest inflation in the past four decades today. But Joe Biden has failed on each of these….

Murkowski’s Leadership on Display as She Calls Out Biden Admin for Overstepping Its Authority

April 1, 2022

A couple of weeks ago, PTF’s Founder Daniel Turner spoke at the Meet Alaska conference on how the Biden Administration was continuing to overstep its power by issuing executive and administrative orders to bypass Congress and its rule-making authority. Turner noted that an often-overlooked area of influence was at an agency level, with FERC, SEC and the Fed all joining the chorus with anti-traditional energy announcements and ‘go-green’ mandates recently. Alaska’s senior U.S. Senator, Lisa Murkowski, and nine of her colleagues must have been listening. On March 22nd, they sent a letter to the Government Accountability Office’s Comptroller General, specifically…

Alaska’s Rich Resource History is a Cause for Celebration

March 29, 2022

Yesterday was Seward’s Day in Alaska; a day where we celebrate the signing of the Alaska Purchase treaty between the U.S. and Russia.  It is named for then-Secretary of State, William H. Seward, who negotiated the purchase back in 1867. Alaska had been known to the U.S. as a potential resource paradise for decades before the purchase.  Abundant supplies of timber and fish, not to mention animals and fowl, were in-demand by the rest of the country.  Still, Seward was ridiculed by some in Congress, as having paid too much for the state – $.02 an acre, for a total…
