Investigative Report Shows “Ghost Group” Suing to Stop Alaska Development

October 30, 2023

Alert Americans know the eco-Left has targeted Alaska for decades, hoping to throttle the state’s resource development opportunities to ‘save the planet’ from the ‘existential threat’ of climate change. While no opportunity has been attacked for as long as the 40-year fight over oil and gas drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), nor with as much vigor as the Pebble Project, with its $1 trillion in copper and other mineral assets, at least those were targeted by legitimate eco organizations. But, according to an investigative report in Must Read Alaska, radical environmentalists have taken to using ‘ghost’ groups…

Go Get ‘Em, AIDEA! Alaska Authority Sues Feds Over Lease Cancellations

October 19, 2023

When Congress passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act in 2017, one of its provisions was the clear opening of the 10-02 section of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) on Alaska’s North Slope.  Congress mandated two lease sales in the 10-02; one by the end of 2020 and one by 2024, where tracts of lands would be made available to explore and (hopefully) develop, adding to American energy production. The first lease sale ultimately led to eleven tracts being put under contract, with the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) being the winner and contracted entity of seven…

Anti-Development Event Completely Misses Its Own Irony

October 18, 2023

Every now and then, we come across events that make us shake our heads, wondering what the organizers are thinking. One such event is tomorrow’s rally in Anchorage, Alaska.  Titled ‘Defend the Sacred: Extraction is NOT Our Way of Life’, it hopes to rally people to action against energy creation in Alaska, and to ‘…stand in solidarity with community leaders and members this week as we all work to advocate for meaningful decision making that truly protects our ways of life.’ There would be disastrous impacts to Alaska’s economy, families and future if they got their way and oil, gas…

Senator Dan Sullivan Just Gets It…America Needs Energy Independence

October 17, 2023

During an appearance on the Fox News Rundown podcast yesterday morning, Alaska’s U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan took aim at the Biden Administration for its eco-centric energy policies that have weakened America’s international standing. When host Gurnal Scott asked Sullivan about Alaska and its ability to add to the nation’s energy security, Sullivan was clear, as he discussed the ways American – and in particular, Alaskan – energy is developed using the highest environmental standards.  He also added the fact that for every U.S. barrel produced is one less barrel OPEC, Venezuela or other nations can hold over America’s heads when…

Eco-Activists Target Another Alaska Mineral Project

October 4, 2023

For nearly two decades, Alaska’s Pebble Mine has been the subject of an unrelenting, high-stakes and well-coordinated attack, with hundreds of millions of dollars being spent to thwart the development of $1 trillion in copper, gold, rhenium and molybdenum assets. Pebble’s opponents have enlisted the help of celebrities and politicians to fight Pebble, but its most effective tactic was to infiltrate local Native villages – some, hundreds of miles away from the proposed mine – spend large sums of money in the name of philanthropy, then use their new-found influence to spread fear about Pebble to community leaders.  Once they…

Wind Energy to Replace Traditional Sources? More Tilting at Windmills

October 2, 2023

Eco-zealots targeting the Last Frontier as their next battleground for transitioning the electric grid away from traditional energy to renewables swept into Anchorage recently, attending the 2023 Alaska Wind Workshop. And, judging by the agenda, a lot of hot air was expended, with few positives for Alaska coming out of the event. Presenters spent time hyping up emerging (read: unreliable) technologies and touting wind’s so-called benefits to Alaska, with topics ranging from project financing, technical hurdles such as communications, and the logistics of developing, installing and maintaining wind systems in remote communities. Additionally, panelists delved into energy storage, from considerations…

“Major Load-Shedding” Event Leaves Huge Swaths of Urban Alaska in the Dark

September 25, 2023

Mid-Sunday afternoon, Alaskans from Fairbanks to Homer were suddenly without power. Facebook, X, Instagram and other social media went wild with posts from concerned residents and business owners, wondering what could possibly have shut down power across large swaths of Alaska’s major population centers.  Maps of affected areas were cut and pasted onto personal websites and social media accounts, with conspiracy theories abounding as to what started the outage. Most homes and businesses recovered within 30 minutes, but some went into the evening before power was restored. The culprit, according to the utilities, was a “major load-shedding event”.  From Chugach…

Alaska’s EV Owners Rush to Buy, Then Complain and Whine When Chargers Aren’t Everywhere

September 5, 2023

By Rick Whitbeck, Alaska State Director Alaskans understand that extreme weather, including below-zero temperatures, feet of snowfall in a single storm and 100+ mile-per-hour windstorms can and will disrupt our lives.  We are adept at sheltering in place, planning for the next event and spending quality time by candlelight, in the event the power goes out. For the vast majority of us, electric vehicles (EVs) will never be our transportation mode of choice.  We like big rigs, powerful trucks, the ability to travel off-road and explore our vast state without worrying about where to plug our vehicles in, or if…

Renewable Portfolio Standards Would be Bad for Alaska

August 29, 2023

If the eco-left has its way, the majority of Alaska’s population will be powered and heated not by its abundant oil and natural gas, but by unreliable wind and solar. Conveniently overlooking the fact that localities, states and even countries who have embraced those goals have been hit both with exponentially higher costs and decreased reliability, a coalition of environmental groups continue to push for a ‘renewable portfolio standard’ (RPS)  for Alaska’s main population corridor between Fairbanks (to the north) and Homer (to the south).  The RPS would have 80% of the Railbelt’s energy come from renewable sources by 2040,…
