Hallelujah! California’s Radical Fracking Ban Bill Fails to Advance in the State’s Legislature

April 14, 2021

California has been a leader in championing anti-energy, anti-business and anti-jobs policies, and the results speak for themselves. The state suffers from some of the highest retail electricity rates in the nation, making the businesses there less competitive on a national and global level. So it was no surprise earlier this year when CNBC reported that companies – including Oracle, Palantir and Hewlett-Packard Enterprise – were eagerly moving their headquarters out of the state. California’s population and job growth have both slowed to a trickle, with many citing concerns about high taxes, cost of living and heavy regulations. But rather…

California Proposes Ban on Fracking by 2027

April 8, 2021

California has become the leader for extreme eco-left policies with little to no regard for the economic impacts they have on household’s energy bills. Democratic California lawmakers proposed a bill that would ban fracking by 2027, just six years from now. Fox News reports: The bill, from Democratic state Sens. Scott Wiener of San Francisco and Monique Limon of Santa Barbara, would prohibit new fracking permits or renewals by Jan. 1, 2022, while also banning permits within 2,500 feet of homes or schools. Unsurprisingly, this new bill does not sit well with Republican lawmakers or industry workers. Assembly Member Vince…

Kern County Approves Plan for Thousands of New Oil and Gas Wells

March 10, 2021

Monday, the Kern County Board of Supervisors approved a revised ordinance to fast-track the drilling of thousands of new oil and gas wells over the next 15 years and is expected to approve as many as 2,700 new wells a year. The Los Angeles Times reports: The revision was necessary after a state appeals court ruled last year that a 2015 ordinance violated the California Environmental Quality Act by not fully evaluating or disclosing environmental damage that could occur from drilling. New drilling permits were not issued while the county returned to the drawing board. … The 2015 ordinance would…

California Proposes Ban on Fracking by 2027

February 18, 2021

It is no surprise the eco-left’s influence is deep in California; the state has been a constant leader on radical progressive policies. However, you would think they would learn their lesson following the rolling blackouts that swept the state this summer that renewable energy is not reliable.  Yet, the most populated state in the country is still set on the goal to rely entirely on renewable energy by 2045. The Associated Press reports: Last year, Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom announced steps to ban the sale of new gas-powered cars and called on lawmakers to go further by banning new permits for fracking,…

Fracking Revenue Plunging in Western States

December 14, 2020

Shortly after his election in 2009, President Obama famously said that elections have consequences. Unfortunately for citizens of Western states like Colorado and Wyoming, they in particular may suffer the most from Joe Biden’s potential victory. There has been a lot of speculation around Biden’s potential fracking policy, and for good reason. On the campaign trail, Biden was inconsistent in his calls for an outright ban on fracking, a ban on federal lands, or none at all. But, one thing is very clear – the subsequent consequences of his decision will be severe. Forbes reports: Federal revenues coming into the states…

Eco-Left Injects Revisionist History into California Blackouts

November 9, 2020

Radical environmentalists can’t stand the fact that their “solutions” to our country’s energy needs don’t get the job done. You might recall last August as national green leader California suffered through rolling blackouts, nearly everyone questioned their reliance on solar and wind. Fast forward to today, and everyone involved in the debacle definitely wants you to know it wasn’t the failure of renewables, it was our own failure. Last month, California’s energy providers sent a report to Governor Gavin Newsom saying the problems that cause the blackouts were: Climate change and a failure to plan. From the report: “In transitioning…

Election Countdown: California’s 22nd Congressional Race

October 30, 2020

Race: California 22nd District Key Cities: San Joaquin Valley Matchup: Republican/Incumbent Devin Nunes vs. Democrat Phil Arballo The Race: Representative Devin Nunes (R) has been in Congress since 2002 and it is clear why his district continues to send him back to Washington. California’s 22 district includes portions of Tulare and Fresno counties, which are known for their oil and gas production. Rep. Nunes has voted consistently to help expand America’s energy production. He voted “no” to both H.R. 205 which extends the ban of offshore drilling in the U.S. and H.R. 1146 which banned the exploration of oil fields…

This district is especially important to oil production. Kern County is one of the top oil producers in the country. According to the U.S. Department of Interior…

California to Ban Gas-Fueled Cars by 2035

September 23, 2020

There have been some unexpected headlines in the year 2020, but this may be the most radical of them all: Newsom calls for California ban on new gas fueled cars by 2035. This morning, Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) signed an executive order stating just that, banning new gasoline-fueled vehicles within 15 years in a bid to combat climate change. Newsom provided the usual talking points as an explanation for California’s most radical policy yet. “This is the most impactful step our state can take to fight climate change,” said Newsom. “For too many decades, we have allowed cars to pollute…

California’s Unattainable Green Energy Goals Will Affect Consumers at the Supermarket

September 21, 2020

Last week, Power the Future discussed California Governor Gavin Newsom’s extreme new energy goals and how unreliable green energy is. The Sacramento Bee reports how these new goals can hurt farmers and our food supply. Chris Rufer, the founder of The Morning Star Co. of Woodland, CA, one of the world’s largest tomato processors, discusses the current clean energy fees he pays just to keep his plant running.  “Under California’s climate-change initiative known as cap-and-trade, Morning Star has to spend about $2 million a year buying carbon emission credits — the right to spew greenhouse gases at its processing plants in Williams, Los…
