The Federal Government Was Funding Its Own Opposition, Until Today

Secretary Burgum’s Interior Department just put an end to Washington’s most absurd arrangements.

For years, American taxpayers have been forced to subsidize organizations working against American energy production, economic growth, and the priorities of the voters who elected their government.

That era is ending.

According to a new Fox News report, the Department of the Interior has terminated 43 partnerships with outside organizations after determining they no longer aligned with the agency’s mission. The move eliminates more than $4 million in planned funding and follows a department-wide review of nearly 3,000 agreements.

The review found numerous organizations that were actively promoting policies in direct conflict with the administration’s priorities, including opposition to fossil fuels, environmental justice activism, DEI programming, and even services connected to illegal immigrants.

As Interior explained:

“Under President Trump and Secretary Burgum, the Department of the Interior is taking decisive action to ensure its partnerships and resources support the priorities of this administration and the interests of the American people.”

That should be common sense.

Taxpayer dollars should not be used to support organizations lobbying against American energy workers. They should not be used to advance political agendas rejected by voters. And they certainly should not be used to fund groups that routinely sue the very administration providing them with government partnerships.

Secretary Doug Burgum deserves credit for taking a hard look at where taxpayer money is going and asking a simple question: does this partnership benefit the American people?

If the answer is no, it should end.

For too long, anti-energy activist groups enjoyed privileged access to government agencies while working to shut down the industries that power our economy. This decision sends a clear message that federal partnerships are intended to serve the public interest, not bankroll activism.

Promises made. Promises kept.
