Trump’s Ratepayer Protection Pledge Protects Families While Powering America’s AI Future

America is in the midst of a technological shift. Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasing electricity demand. Data centers supporting these technologies consume vast amounts of energy, and without careful planning, this demand could strain the electric grid and lead to higher electricity prices for families. Fortunately, President Trump is taking action to ensure that doesn’t happen.

This week, the administration announced a new Ratepayer Protection Pledge (RPP). Which is an agreement with major American technology companies designed to protect households from higher power bills while allowing the United States to remain the global technology leader. Under the pledge, companies building or expanding data centers will secure the power required for their operations and pay the full cost of generation and grid infrastructure needed to support them. This partnership will help ensure expenses are not passed on to residential ratepayers while strengthening the grid and supporting long-term affordability.

“This is exactly the kind of leadership needed to keep America ahead in the global technology race while protecting working families at home,” said Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director for Power The Future. “We’re grateful to the tech companies for their commitment to supply and pay for the power they need, because they’re helping preserve America’s technological edge while ensuring that everyday ratepayers aren’t left footing the bill. President Trump deserves credit for bringing industry leaders together and charting a smart path that strengthens both our electric grid and our wallets.”

Major companies, including Amazon, Google, Meta, and Microsoft, have committed to funding generation resources and grid upgrades needed to power their facilities. They will also negotiate separate rate structures with utilities to protect residential customers from higher energy costs. The pledge further encourages companies to support local hiring and workforce development while working with grid operators to improve reliability and prevent power shortages.

The truth is simple: America’s AI revolution will increase electricity demands. But that demand must be addressed responsibly. President Trump’s Ratepayer Protection Pledge finds the right balance between encouraging innovation and protecting families.
