Who is Funding the War on American Energy?

For years, the eco-left has insisted that its war on American energy was a “grassroots” movement. Now, we may be learning just how foreign those roots really are.

Nineteen Republican attorneys general, led by Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen, are urging Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice to investigate more than 150 U.S.-based nonprofits that have received nearly $2 billion in foreign funding over the past decade. The concern is that this funding may have been used to influence U.S. energy policy without registering under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA).

According to the letter, first reported by Fox News, five foreign foundations sent massive sums of money to U.S. groups.

“The five foreign groups named in the letter, the Oak Foundation, Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, Quadrature Climate Foundation, KR Foundation and Laudes Foundation, were found by the conservative watchdog Americans for Public Trust to have funneled the money to the smaller organizations over the past decade… The attorneys general alleged the foreign foundations used funding to “direct climate activism and influence energy policy in the United States, including by funding U.S. policy fights, litigation, research, protests, and lobbying to advance an extreme, foreign, activist agenda.”’

At least one of the foundations has documented ties to the Chinese Communist Party, raising even more serious national security concerns. If foreign entities are funding campaigns to restrict domestic energy production, the American people deserve to know.

For too long, foreign-funded climate activism has operated in the shadows while American workers paid the price. It’s time to find out who’s really pulling the strings behind the eco-left’s assault on American energy.
