Trump and Zeldin Keep Reliable Power on the Grid
President Trump and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin just delivered another major win for affordable, reliable American energy.
The administration has repealed most of a Biden-era rule targeting coal and natural gas power plants, the very plants Americans depend on when electricity demand is highest. The Hill reports that EPA estimates the move will save $310 billion.
Biden’s rule made it far more expensive to keep many coal plants running and effectively pushed some toward closure. At the same time, electricity demand is exploding as more factories, data centers and homes need power.
That is a terrible combination: shut down dependable power plants while asking the grid to produce more electricity.
Trump and Zeldin are reversing course.
Instead of forcing reliable plants off the grid to satisfy climate activists, EPA is allowing them to keep producing the electricity Americans actually use. More available power means a stronger grid, less risk of shortages and less upward pressure on electric bills.
The National Mining Association said the Biden rule threatened a “catastrophic collision” between unrealistic mandates and soaring energy demand. That collision is exactly what the Trump administration is trying to prevent.
