New Mexico Senate Bill Would Force Solar, EV Charging In All New Homes

January 23, 2023

In the past few years, families in New Mexico have experienced record prices at the gas pump and once-in-a-generation inflation, all driven by the loss of American energy independence. And unfortunately, the start of the new legislative session showed where the eco-left’s priorities are.  On the first day of the 2023 Legislative Session, Senator Will Soules introduced a bill titled “New Home Bill Renewable Requirements.” If passed, Senate Bill 77 would require all homes built after July 1, 2023, to include solar panels and an electric vehicle charging station. “With high heating costs and the price at the pump on the rise, New…

New Mexico Senators Vote for Legislation Pushing Expensive Electric Vehicles, Refuse to Say if They Drive Them

August 16, 2022

Last week, both of New Mexico’s U.S. Senators – Martin Heinrich and Ben Ray Lujan – voted to pass the Democrats’ massive spending legislation. The bill, now signed into law, is a massive boon for the electric vehicle (EV) industry. It includes huge taxpayer-dollar incentives for Americans looking to purchase used or new EVs and for manufacturers looking to build them. Even with all these incentives, electric vehicles are still very expensive for most Americans. In New Mexico, the average salary is $52,000 a year, and the average price of an electric vehicle is $64,000. So, The Center Square asked both…

Gov. Lujan Grisham Remains Silent as Biden EPA Targets New Mexico Energy

June 30, 2022

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham remains silent as President Biden’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) plans to raid New Mexico’s energy industry. The EPA has announced it may soon deem parts of the Permian Basin, which includes New Mexico, in “non-attainment” with ozone standards. This move comes at the request of the eco-left. The Wall Street Journal editorial board writes, “Green groups last spring petitioned the EPA to do this to effectively force curbs on shale fracking. The Permian is currently the most productive, and cost-effective, oil shale reserve in the U.S. It accounts for 43% of U.S. oil production.” In response, Texas Governor Greg Abbott…

Months After Gov. Lujan Grisham Cheered Expensive Gas Standard, Fuel Prices Hit Record Highs in New Mexico

June 3, 2022

Fresh off the unofficial start of Summer, New Mexico’s families are once again facing the highest price for gasoline ever recorded in the state. The latest record also occurs less than four months since Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham “cheered” the passage of her mandated fuel standard which would have raised the cost of fuel by 35 cents per gallon. The potential disaster of the Governor’s “Clean Fuel” mandate is further highlighted by three other states which have passed similar laws: California, Oregon, and Washington. The average cost for a gallon of gas in those states is $5.62 a gallon, with…

New Mexico’s Radical Eco-Left Governor Among the Nation’s Least Popular

April 29, 2022

Newly released polling shows New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s approval rate at 48 percent, ranking her among the least popular governors in the country. New Mexicans are not thrilled with her extreme environmental agenda. Since taking office, Governor Lujan Grisham has unapologetically implemented a radical green agenda to undermine the energy workers in her state who deliver billions to the state budget. Not only has Lujan Grisham passed her own version of the Green New Deal leading to the threat of blackouts this summer, but she has also told other eco-left governors “we need to transition out of fossil fuels.”  “This approval rate…

Governor Lujan Grisham’s “Mini” Green New Deal Means Power Outages Possible This Summer

January 31, 2022

According to a new report, the state’s largest utility provider is warning of possible power outages in New Mexico this summer due to a lack of available electricity. The warnings are a result of Governor Lujan Grisham’s mismanagement of the state’s electric grid through the “mini” Green New Deal law she championed and passed in 2019. Many warned that Lujan Grisham’s Energy Transition Act would lead to higher energy costs and the possibility of blackouts due to lack of reliable electricity, but those warnings were ignored. Now, providers are scrambling to find enough electricity to keep the lights on this summer as a…

New Mexico Governor Demands New Bureaucracy to Oversee Gas Price Hike

January 7, 2022

As part of her budget recommendation for the upcoming legislative session, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham is requesting $2.5 million to create a 15-person “Climate Change Bureau.” The newly-created bureaucracy would cost taxpayers more than $166,000 per employee and be put in charge of implementing the Governor’s Clean Fuel Standard Act which will raise gas prices across the state. Despite the fact the Clean Fuel Standard failed to pass the legislature in 2021, the Governor is demanding the proposal be brought back in the 2022 legislative session. While New Mexico’s families are currently paying gas prices that are 40 percent higher than last year, the Governor’s proposal…

$1 Million Giveaway to the Rich is New Mexico’s First “Green” Bill of 2022

January 4, 2022

When you’re an eco-leftist, if Santa Claus doesn’t deliver, Santa Fe will. It sure didn’t take long for the environmental handout wishes to start coming true as the first green subsidy bill for the upcoming legislative session is now a reality. New Mexico Representative Debra Sariñana is first out of the gate with the “Energy Storage System Tax Credit.” Rep. Sariñana’s bill would provide a total of $1 million in tax credits per year for homeowners who install batteries with their home energy systems. Each taxpayer would be eligible for a $5,000 credit and if the million-dollar cutoff is reached,…

Despite Eco-Claims, New Mexico Electric Rates Continue to Rise

December 10, 2021

New Mexico’s “mini” Green New Deal comes with a cost, and New Mexico’s working families are stuck with the bill. The newest report from Choose Energy shows New Mexico’s electric rates rose 3.8 percent between September 2020 and the same time in 2021. To make matters worse, ratepayers in the state now pay 14.64 cents per kilowatt-hour which is higher than the national average of 14.19 cents. It all adds up to New Mexico residents having to pay the 14th highest electric rates in the nation. The rising electric bills are exactly what Power The Future predicted would happen when…
