New Mexico Electric Rates Skyrocket with More Increases on the Way

August 23, 2021

From May of 2020 through May of this year, New Mexico “enjoyed” some of the fastest-growing electric rates in the country. You can’t say you weren’t warned. According to this report at Choose Energy, New Mexico’s electric bills are up 8.7 percent over last year, the 6th highest increase in the nation. The increase comes at a time when many states are seeing their rates decrease. The state with the highest increase? You guessed it, California’s electric bills are up over 21 percent from last year and they now pay the most of any of the lower 48 states. In…

New Mexico Governor: Clean Cars for Thee, but Not for Me!

August 6, 2021

New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham wants you to know she really loves Joe Biden’s “clean” car mandate, just not enough to actually live by it herself. Joe Biden wants half of new car sales to be from “zero-emission” vehicles by the end of this decade. Left out of all the self-congratulating announcements is the fact that both Biden and Lujan Grisham drive around gas-guzzling vehicles. The environment is such an existential crisis, here is the car Lujan Grisham uses to ride around: As of July, Biden’s “clean” vehicles make up less than 4 percent of sales and fully-electric vehicles make up…

Brownouts On the Table for Next Summer: New Mexico Governor Silent

August 2, 2021

New Mexico’s leaders love following California’s ill-conceived eco-leftist ideas, and it looks like electric brownouts are next. The state’s largest electric utility is warning of the possibility of brownouts next summer as they shut down reliable coal power in favor of…well, they don’t know yet. Solar projects are behind schedule and now the utility admits they won’t have the same amount of power in the near future. From the article: “We are looking at any and all options. … And we continue to beat the bushes, so to say, for other opportunities as well,” “Am I concerned? Yes. Do I…

Utility Warns: New Mexico Forced Transition May Lead to Problems Next Summer

July 26, 2021

New Mexico’s largest utility is admitting the forced transition to unreliable solar and wind power isn’t going as planned and it could cause problems next summer. In a report by the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission, the utility wrote “PNM’s existing resources, including available reserves, may be insufficient for peak period reliability” next summer. The utility notes that solar projects are late coming online, including one project that may be in default and now New Mexico’s electric reliability is in question. Not to worry, environmental groups are still pushing for the closure of a coal-fired power plant that has delivered…

New Mexico’s Senators Need to Withdraw Support of BLM Nominee Stone-Manning

July 21, 2021

As pressure builds to pull the nomination of Tracy Stone-Manning, New Mexico’s two senators have remained quiet. Since her nomination to lead the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Stone-Manning has faced accusations of lying to Congress and taking part in a dangerous 1989 tree-spiking incident in Idaho. Just last week, 10 senators signed on to a letter asking President Biden to withdraw the nomination. In return, there’s been nothing but silence from Senators Heinrich and Lujan. At this point, it’s good to know BLM is in charge of over 13 million acres of land in New Mexico. That’s more land…

Governor Says New Mexico A “Shining Example” of Clean Energy…Facts Disagree

July 15, 2021

New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham made another one of those “life is great” speeches to her eco-left friends this week. While speaking to the Environmental Council of States 2021 State Environmental Protection meeting the Governor said: “New Mexico is serving as a shining example to other states and countries,” said Gov. Lujan Grisham. “If other states and countries are looking for a climate action model to follow, look to New Mexico.” The Governor is half right: New Mexico is an example of the radical green agenda, but it’s far from shining. The Governor’s green agenda is causing eclectic rates…

Eco-Left “Experts” Wrong on New Mexico…Again

July 9, 2021

Being an eco-leftist means you never have to answer when your doom-and-gloom predictions about the energy industry fail. It was just last October when the left-wing Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis put out their report that New Mexico’s energy industry was declining. Local radical environmentalists hailed the report and demanded the state listen to the “experts.” One article quoted an author of the report as saying: “Co-author of the IEEFA report Tom Sanzillo said estimates show the average price of oil will remain as low as $43 per barrel through 2022. “It’s an improvement over the historic lows…

New Mexico Electric Rates Rising Higher Than National Average

July 6, 2021

It seems like it was only a few months ago New Mexico’s Governor was trying to convince the people that their electric bills were actually going down. Turns out, she either doesn’t know the truth or is deceiving the state’s working families on purpose. According to one report, not only have New Mexico’s electric rates gone up, they’re rising faster than the national average. Between March 2020 and March 2021, electric bills in New Mexico rose 2.1 percent, higher than the national average of 1.6 percent. To make matters worse, New Mexico’s families are paying more for their electricity than…

Gas Prices Aren’t High Enough for New Mexico’s Governor

June 28, 2021

New Mexico’s gas prices are up over 50% over last year. So, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham feels it’s the perfect time to force a green tax on the state’s working families. The Governor and her eco-left administration have proudly announced they are going to try again to impose a clean fuel standard after it failed to pass the most recent legislative session. The Governor’s Green Gas Tax would have New Mexico follow in the footsteps of California and Oregon who have already passed such laws. Not surprisingly, California currently has the highest gas prices in the nation and Oregon ranks…
